USC Women Going Back To Sweet 16

No. 8/8 South Carolina advanced to its second NCAA Sweet 16 in the last three seasons with a 78-69 win over Oregon State Tuesday night at Alaska Airlines Arena. The Gamecocks got double-doubles from their player of the year candidates Tiffany Mitchell and Aleighsa Welch and turned in a defensive effort that held the Beavers’ leading scorer scoreless until the final 90 seconds of the game. OSU fought to the end, forcing the Gamecocks to close it out at the free throw line, where they went 13-of-14 in the final three minutes.

Clemson Crushes Georgia 16-4

Every Tiger starter had at least one hit and scored at least one run by the fifth inning in No. 20 Clemson’s 16-4 victory over Georgia at a chilly Foley Field on Tuesday night. The Tigers (15-9), who won their fifth game in a row at Foley Field, took a 1-0 lead in the home-and-home series over the Bulldogs (14-11-1), as the two teams will play at Clemson on April 8.

Pankake Helps USC Beat Charleston 4-2

Joey Pankake extended his hitting streak to 11 games and went 3-for-4 with three RBI as second ranked South Carolina defeated College of Charleston 4-2 on Tuesday evening at Carolina Stadium. The Gamecocks improve to 20-3 on the year while the loss drops the Cougars to 16-8.

Clemson Beats Belmont, Makes NIT Final Four

For the third time in its history, Clemson is headed to New York City and famed arena Madison Square Garden for the semifinals of the National Invitation Tournament (NIT). The Tigers knocked off Belmont in a thriller Tuesday, 73-68, after trailing by five with 3:53 remaining. Clemson advances to face the winner of California vs. SMU on Tuesday, April 1. The game time has yet to be determined.

Spring Game FanFest Details Set

The Gamecock Club will be hosting its annual FanFest before the Garnet & Black Spring Game on Saturday, April 12. FanFest activities will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will be located in the northwest corner of Williams-Brice Stadium at the intersection of George Rogers Blvd. and Bluff Road.

Newberry Nails Down 2015 Football Schedule

Newberry College and the Florida Institute of Technology have announced the completion of a contract for the two institutions to play football games in the 2015 and 2016 seasons. The contract completes Newberry’s 2015 schedule with six home games – including Division I opponent Charleston Southern – and five road games. The 2016 schedule still has one open date remaining with five home games and five road games on the schedule at this point.
