USC Up To #5 In Baseball America Rankings

The Gamecocks rose to number five in the Baseball America rankings after sweeping the Bucknell Bison 17-4, 12-2, and 12-0 in the three game opening series this past weekend. The Gamecocks started the season ranked number seven in Baseball America’s preseason rankings. South Carolina scored 41 runs on 39 hits in the weekend series against the Bison.

Clemson Edges EMU In Opening Weekend

Clemson edged Eastern Michigan Sunday 9-7 to take two of three in the first series of the season at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. The Tigers (2-1) return to the field Friday when they begin a 3-game home series against Maine.

Thornwell Named SEC Freshman Of The Week

South Carolina freshman guard Sindarius Thornwell has been named SEC Freshman of the Week after averaging 20.5 points, five rebounds and five assists as he led the Gamecocks to back-to-back wins against Vanderbilt and Alabama last week. It marked the first time since January 2011 that Carolina has won consecutive conference games. This is Thornwell’s second-career Player of the Week honor.

South Carolina opened the 2014 season with a series sweep of Bucknell at Carolina Stadium. The Gamecocks won a doubleheader on Saturday with victories of 17-4 and 12-2 and closed out the series on Sunday with a 12-0 win.

Lady Gamecocks Power Past LSU

No. 5/6 South Carolina rose to every challenge in a 73-57 win at No 19/17 LSU Sunday afternoon with junior Aleighsa Welch and sophomore Tiffany Mitchell pouring in 19 points each to lead the offensive effort.
