Newberry College has postponed several Wednesday events due to bad weather in the forecast. The basketball doubleheader against Lenoir-Rhyne has been moved until Monday. The baseball game against Pfeiffer has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 18th at 6 p.m.
For the eighth-consecutive fall, South Carolina’s student-athletes topped everyone on the Southeastern Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll.
Clemson averaged 82,048 fans per game during the 2013 football season, a record for the program that has called Memorial Stadium home since 1942. The NCAA recently released official attendance statistics for the 2013 season.
Clemson recruiting coordinator and wide receivers coach Jeff Scott has been named one of the top 25 recruiters in the nation by Rivals.com. It is the second time in three years Scott has been among the top 25 recruiters nationally according to the national website, as he also earned the honor in 2012.
South Carolina has been predicted to win the SEC Championship in the 2014 SEC Preseason Baseball Coaches’ Poll that was released on Tuesday, Feb. 11. South Carolina received five first place votes to win the title as well as nine first place votes to win the Eastern Division. The Gamecocks have won three league championships (2000, 2002, 2011), six Eastern Division titles (1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2011, 2012) and one SEC Tournament crown (2004) in school history.
South Carolina hosts Vanderbilt in the only matchup between the two schools this season. The Gamecocks dropped both of contests with the Commodores in 2013. Vanderbilt posted a 76-64 victory over the Gamecocks in Nashville in the final game of the 2012-13 season. Wednesday’s game will be broadcast on SECTV.
Clemson basketball hits tournament pace early this season. After just one day of rest the Tigers take on Notre Dame Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in South Bend, IN. It’s the first ever meeting between the Irish and Clemson on the basketball court.
South Carolina has added five more home games to this year’s television schedule as well as a road game to increase its total to 14 televised games this year.
A’ja Wilson is the top girls high school basketball prospect in the country. The Heathwood Hall McDonald’s All-American backed up that hype Monday night and helped her team wrap up a region championship. Wilson scored 28 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, blocked nine shots, dished out four assists and had four steals to help the Highlanders route Cardinal Newman 73-30.
The pitching rotation has been announced as the Gamecock Baseball team opens the 2014 season against The Bucknell Bison this weekend. The first pitch of the season is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday.
