Benedict Battles By Claflin 70-58

The Benedict College Tigers snapped a two-game losing streak with a strong all-around effort to beat rival Claflin University 70-58 in front of a packed crowd in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena on Monday night.

More Preseason Accolades For Greiner & Pankake

Junior catcher Grayson Greiner and junior infielder Joey Pankake earned third-team Preseason All-America honors from Baseball America. The Gamecocks, ranked No. 7 in the nation by Baseball America, begin the 2014 season on Friday, Feb. 14 vs. Bucknell in the first game of a three-game series at Carolina Stadium.

Alaina Coates Named Co-SEC Freshman of the Week

South Carolina center Alaina Coates (Irmo, S.C./Dutch Fork) earned her fourth SEC Freshman of the Week selection of the season, the league office announced today. Sharing the honor with Florida’s Ronni Williams this week, Coates has earned the award more than any other Gamecock freshman before her.

USC Women Roll Over Mizzou 78-62

With Steve Spurrier cheering them on, Alaina Coates and the #7 Carolina women rolled to a 78-62 win over Missouri at the Colonial Life Arena Sunday afternoon. The Gamecocks improved to 20-2 overall, 8-1 in the Southeastern Conference. USC has now won 20 games in three straight seasons and is in first place in the SEC.

USC Women Host Mizzou

No. 7/8 South Carolina looks for its 20th win of the season on Sunday as Missouri comes to Colonial Life Arena for a 3 p.m. tipoff. Fans will receive a neon “There’s No Place Like Home” t-shirt at the door, while supplies last up to 4,000. Students will also receive free food vouchers. The Gamecocks (19-2, 7-1 SEC) are coming off a dominating offensive performance, scoring a school SEC-game record 99 points against Ole Miss Thursday night. The Tigers (14-7, 3-5 SEC) are fresh off an upset of No. 16/18 Vanderbilt on the same night. Missouri is second in the nation with 9.6 3-pointers made per game, while South Carolina ranks second in the conference in 3-point percentage defense.
