Clemson Football Sets Attendance Record

Clemson averaged 82,048 fans per game during the 2013 football season, a record for the program that has called Memorial Stadium home since 1942. The NCAA recently released official attendance statistics for the 2013 season.

Clemson’s Scott Named Top 25 Recruiter

Clemson recruiting coordinator and wide receivers coach Jeff Scott has been named one of the top 25 recruiters in the nation by Rivals.com. It is the second time in three years Scott has been among the top 25 recruiters nationally according to the national website, as he also earned the honor in 2012.

Coaches Pick Gamecocks To Win SEC

South Carolina has been predicted to win the SEC Championship in the 2014 SEC Preseason Baseball Coaches’ Poll that was released on Tuesday, Feb. 11. South Carolina received five first place votes to win the title as well as nine first place votes to win the Eastern Division. The Gamecocks have won three league championships (2000, 2002, 2011), six Eastern Division titles (1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2011, 2012) and one SEC Tournament crown (2004) in school history.

Men’s Hoops Hosts Vanderbilt Wednesday Night

South Carolina hosts Vanderbilt in the only matchup between the two schools this season. The Gamecocks dropped both of contests with the Commodores in 2013. Vanderbilt posted a 76-64 victory over the Gamecocks in Nashville in the final game of the 2012-13 season. Wednesday’s game will be broadcast on SECTV.

Top Prospect Wilson Backs Up Hype

A’ja Wilson is the top girls high school basketball prospect in the country. The Heathwood Hall McDonald’s All-American backed up that hype Monday night and helped her team wrap up a region championship. Wilson scored 28 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, blocked nine shots, dished out four assists and had four steals to help the Highlanders route Cardinal Newman 73-30.

Tiffany Mitchell Named To Wade Watch List

South Carolina sophomore Tiffany Mitchell (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day) was one of 10 players added to the Watch List for the 2014 State Farm Wade Trophy, presented to the nation’s most outstanding NCAA Division I player each year. The complete watch list of now 35 will be trimmed to 12 finalists in mid-March. It is the second watch list for Mitchell this season as she earned a spot on the Dawn Staley Award list this month as well.

Welch Named SEC Co-Player Of The Week

South Carolina junior forward Aleighsa Welch (Goose Creek, S.C./Goose Creek) earned SEC Co-Player of the Week honors, the league office announced today. Sharing the award with Florida’s Kayla Lewis, Welch led the Gamecocks in scoring and rebounding and was second in assists and blocks over the two wins that kept South Carolina atop the SEC standings.
