Martin Travels To Russia With Team USA

South Carolina head coach Frank Martin and the USA Basketball World University Games squad departed Colorado on Monday for Kazan, Russia, site of the 2013 World University Games. Martin is serving as an assistant coach alongside head coach Bob McKillop (Davidson) and fellow assistant John Beilein (Michigan).
Training camp for the event began with 26 players on June 24 before a final roster of 12 was announced in late June.

Lattimore Shows Off Mobility

Monday, Marcus Lattimore showed off some pretty good mobility with his surgically repaired knee during a commercial shoot for Under Armour at Williams-Brice Stadium.

Schrock Earns Freshman All-American Honors

South Carolina second baseman Max Schrock earned second-team Freshman All-America honors from Baseball America, it was announced on Monday afternoon. Schrock hit .282 (64-for-227) for the season with six homers and 39 RBI. He tied for the team lead with 21 multi-hit games and led the Gamecocks with 14 stolen bases.

Pankake In College Home Run Derby

South Carolina infielder Joey Pankake is one of eight players that will compete in the 2013 TD Ameritrade Home Run Derby on Wednesday, July 3 at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha. The event will be taped and televised nationally on ESPN on Wednesday, July 4 at 8 p.m. ET. Pankake started 62 games for the Gamecocks and hit 11 homers with 42 RBI and a .496 slugging percentage. Pankake ranked sixth in the SEC this year in home runs as well as 10th in slugging percentage and 14th in runs batted in.

ACC Officially Expands To 15 Teams

The Atlantic Coast Conference will formally welcome its three newest members – Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and Syracuse – at an afternoon press conference in New York City on Monday. The new members will start competition in the 15-member ACC this fall.

Carrera Continues Strong SC Pro-Am Play

USC rising sophomore Michael Carrera continued a strong summer performance at a busy weekend of SC Pro-Am league play. Carrera scored 26 points Sunday afternoon, helping his team hold off an opposing team led by incoming USC newcomers Ty Johnson and Sindarius Thornwell.
