USC Drops SEC Tourney Opener To Miss St.

After 12th ranked South Carolina rallied from three runs down to tie the game in the fourth inning, 13th ranked Mississippi State scored twice in the ninth inning with RBI base hits from Wes Rea and DeMarcus Henderson as the Bulldogs defeated South Carolina 5-3 in SEC Tournament action on Wednesday night. Mississippi State is 42-16 on the year with South Carolina falling to 39-17 on the year. South Carolina will face No. 1 Vanderbilt in an elimination game on Thursday beginning 30 minutes after the conclusion of the 10:30 a.m. ET contest.

Clemson Drops ACC Tourney Opener To NC State

The #9 N.C. State Wolfpack broke a 2-2 tie with four runs in the seventh inning and held on for a 6-3 win over #14 Clemson in the ACC Tournament in front of 4,834 fans at Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Wednesday night. The Wolfpack, who moved to 1-0 in the ACC Tournament, improved to 43-13 on the season. The Tigers, who fell to 0-1 in the ACC Tourney, dropped to 39-18 in 2013.

USC Begins SEC Tournament Against Miss St.

South Carolina begins SEC Tournament action on Wednesday night as the No. 4 seed in the tournament and will face No. 5 Mississippi State, who defeated Missouri 2-1 in 17 innings on Tuesday night. The Gamecocks finished the regular season 39-16 and 17-12 in the SEC. The Gamecocks were second in the SEC Eastern Division and fourth overall. It will be the final game on Wednesday night, time still to be determined.

Boulware Semifinalist For Olson Award

Sophomore catcher Garrett Boulware (Anderson, SC) was one of 46 semifinalists for the Gregg Olson Award, announced by Toolshed Sports on Wednesday. The award honors college baseball’s “Breakout Player-of-the-Year” and is named after former Auburn pitcher Gregg Olson, who became one of the top collegiate players in the nation after an initial season filled with only mixed success.

Ciuffo Class AAAA Player of the Year

Gamecock signee Nick Ciuffo earned AAAA state player of the year honors from the South Carolina Baseball Coaches Association on Tuesday. The senior Lexington High School catcher also tweeted that he has accepted an invitation to attend next month’s MLB Draft in New York.
