Spring Game Set For Saturday

The University of South Carolina football team will wrap up its spring drills on Saturday, April 13, with the annual Garnet & Black Spring Game. Admission is free for the 1 p.m. contest at Williams-Brice Stadium. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3 with Anish Shroff providing the play-by-play and Matt Stinchcomb handling the color commentary. The game will also be shown on ESPNU on a delayed basis.

Gamecocks Host The Citadel On Tuesday Night

South Carolina (26-7) is back in action on Tuesday hosting The Citadel (17-16). First pitch at Carolina Stadium is set for 7 p.m. The game can be heard on the Gamecock Radio Network from IMG College including flagship station, 107.5 FM, “The Game.” Live video broadcast is available on the All Access Channel at GamecocksOnline.

Clemson Holds Second Spring Scrimmage

Vic Beasley had four quarterback sacks and Grady Jarrett added three to highlight the play of the defense in Clemson’s stadium scrimmage on Monday afternoon. The Tigers are preparing for the annual spring football game this Saturday at 4 PM at Memorial Stadium.

Audra Smith Named Clemson Head Women’s Basketball Coach

Clemson University Director of Athletics Dan Radakovich announced on Monday that Audra Smith has been chosen to lead the Women’s Basketball program. Smith, a 1992 Virginia graduate, has spent the last nine seasons at the helm of the UAB program. She led the Blazers to 57 wins over the last three seasons, the most in any three-year period at UAB in 17 years.

Schrock Named SEC Freshman Of The Week

South Carolina second baseman Max Schrock has been named SEC Freshman of the Week, as announced Monday by the conference office. He hit .500 (11-for-22) last week with seven runs scored and eight RBI to earn the award for the first time this season.

Staley Elected to Basketball Hall of Fame

South Carolina women’s basketball head coach Dawn Staley will be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2013, the organization announced at a press conference in Atlanta today. Staley is part of a 12-member class that will be enshrined on Sun., Sept. 8, in Springfield, Mass.

Gamecock Baseball Last Week

South Carolina won four of five games last week with a 9-5 win over Charleston Southern, a 6-5 loss at Furman and a weekend sweep at Tennessee with victories of 5-4, 12-8 and 19-2. The Gamecocks are 26-7 on the year with an 8-4 record in the SEC. South Carolina is second in the SEC Eastern Division and tied for third place overall in the conference standings.

Gamecocks Sweep Tennessee

Eleventh ranked South Carolina belted out a season-high 21 hits with 10 different Gamecocks recording at least one hit on the way to a 19-2 victory over Tennessee to sweep a three-game SEC series at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. The Gamecocks improve to 26-7 and 8-4 in the SEC while the loss drops Tennessee to 13-17 and 3-9 in league play.
