Georgia Snaps 9-Game Losing Streak At Clemson

Kyle Farmer, Hunter Cole, and Jared Walsh all hit home runs to lead Georgia to a 5-3 win over Clemson in front of 5,156 fans at a chilly Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Wednesday night. The Bulldogs, who snapped their nine-game losing streak, improved to 9-17 on the season. The Tigers, who split the home-and-home midweek series 1-1, dropped to 16-9 in 2013.

Baseball Hosts Texas A&M Starting Thursday

First pitch for the opener is 7:30 p.m. with the game televised live on ESPNU as the SEC Game of the Week. Dave Neal and Kyle Peterson will have the call. Friday’s contest is scheduled for 7 p.m. with Saturday’s series finale at 1:30 p.m.

Holmes Helps USC Baseball Bounce Back

Colby Holmes worked 7.1 innings and allowed just one run on four hits with a season-high eight strikeouts and 14th ranked South Carolina scored twice in the first inning on the way to a 3-1 win over College of Charleston on Tuesday evening at Patriots Point. The Gamecocks improve to 19-6 with College of Charleston falling to 13-11 on the year.

Clemson Crushes Georgia 9-1

Georgia native Tyler Slaton totaled a career-high four hits and Georgia native Matthew Crownover pitched 5.0 strong innings to lead Clemson to a 9-1 win over Georgia in front of 1,484 fans at a chilly Foley Field on Tuesday night. The Tigers, who took a 1-0 lead in the home-and-home, midweek series, improved to 16-8 on the season. The Bulldogs fell to 8-17 in 2013.

Barron Gets Another NFL Chance

Tackle Alex Barron signed a free-agent contract with the Oakland Raiders on Tuesday as he hopes to revive his career after sitting out the past two seasons. Barron, a former first round pick by St. Louis in 2005, has started just one game since 2009. After playing sparingly in Dallas in 2010, the Orangeburg native missed the entire 2011 season with New Orleans with a knee injury and was cut in training camp last summer by Seattle.

Ellington Back With Football Team

Two-sport standout Bruce Ellington took part in the Gamecock football’s spring practice session Tuesday for the first time this spring. Ellington, the team’s leading receiver a year ago, had been playing point guard for the Gamecock men’s basketball team over the last few months.
