Extra-Innings Win Gives Arkansas SEC Sweep

Fifth ranked South Carolina rallied from a pair of runs down to tie the game in the seventh inning but 17th ranked Arkansas used a two-out two-run single from Matt Vinson in the top of the 11th inning to defeat the Gamecocks 5-3 on Sunday afternoon and sweeping a three-game SEC series at Carolina Stadium. Arkansas is 17-7 and 4-2 in the SEC with South Carolina 18-6 and 2-4 in league play.

Bradley Homers Off Cliff Lee

Chase Utley and Ryan Howard hit back-to-back home runs for the second consecutive day, but rookie Jackie Bradley Jr. and the Boston Red Sox roughed up Cliff Lee in a 7-6 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday.

Rumph Visits SC State Spring Practice

A surprise visitor attended Sunday’s Bulldog practice. Coach Chris Rumph, who began his college coaching career as a Pough assistant and is now the defensive line coach at national champion Alabama, stopped by and was invited by Pough to address the team briefly. The St. Matthews native and former Calhoun County head coach, who also coached at Clemson after leaving Pough’s staff, has been a part of two national championship teams at Alabama the last three seasons.

Arkansas Clinches USC Series With 4-2 Win

Fifth ranked South Carolina broke a scoreless tie with a run in the fifth inning but 17th ranked Arkansas rallied with four runs in the next three innings on the way to a 4-2 win over the Gamecocks on Saturday afternoon at Carolina Stadium. South Carolina is now 18-5 and 2-3 in the SEC with Arkansas 16-7 and 3-2 in league play. The series finale is set for Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Duke Avoids Clemson Sweep With 13-1 Win

Duke broke the game open with eight runs in the fourth inning in its 13-1 win over Clemson in the second game of a doubleheader at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Devils, who snapped Clemson’s eight-game winning streak in the series, improved to 12-12 overall and 3-6 in the ACC. The Tigers, who won the series 2-1, dropped to 15-8 overall and 5-4 in ACC play.
