Clemson Takes Duke Series WIth 8-4 Win

Every Tiger starter had at least one hit and Zack Erwin pitched 4.1 scoreless innings in relief in Clemson’s 8-4 win over Duke in the first game of a doubleheader at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers, who took a 2-0 lead in the series, improved to 15-7 overall and 5-3 in the ACC. The Blue Devils fell to 11-12 overall and 2-6 in ACC play.

USC Football Cancels Saturday Scrimmage

The University of South Carolina football practice, scheduled for Saturday morning, has been cancelled due to the rain in the Columbia area. No makeup date has been announced. The team will return to the practice fields on Tuesday at 4 p.m. All practices are open to the public.

Arkansas Crushes Carolina 15-3 In Series Opener

No. 17 Arkansas sent 12 batters to the plate in the top of the fourth and scored nine runs on the way to a 15-3 victory over fifth ranked South Carolina on Friday evening at Carolina Stadium. Arkansas is now 15-7 and 2-2 in the SEC with South Carolina now 18-4, 2-2 in the league.

Gossett Shuts Out Duke 7-0 In Series Opener

Sophomore righthander Daniel Gossett pitched a five-hit shutout to lead Clemson to a 7-0 victory over Duke at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Friday afternoon. The Tigers, who took a 1-0 lead in the series, improved to 14-7 overall and 4-3 in the ACC. The Blue Devils fell to 11-11 overall and 2-5 in ACC play.

Haas Tied For PGA Lead Going Into Weekend

Upstate native Bill Haas kept bogeys off his card for a 6-under 66, taking a one-shot lead among the early starters in the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Haas not only hit 15 greens in regulation, he didn’t have a putt for par longer than 4 feet.
