Beal Helps Gamecocks Win SEC Opener 4-1

Sophomore right-hander Evan Beal struck out a career-high 10 batters as fifth ranked South Carolina defeated Missouri 4-1 on Friday evening in the SEC opener at Taylor Stadium. Grayson Greiner homered and scored a pair of runs and TJ Costen had a key two-run single as the Gamecocks improved to 16-2 with the win. The loss drops Missouri to 5-8 for the season.

Clemson Blows Late Lead In UVa Series Opener

Pinch-hitter Mike Papi hit a two-out, run-scoring single in the ninth inning to tie the score, then hit a solo homer in the 11th inning to lead #12 Virginia to a 6-5 win over Clemson in 11 innings in front of 4,823 fans at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Friday night. The Cavaliers, who took a 1-0 lead in the series, improved to 16-1 overall and 3-1 in the ACC. The Tigers fell to 10-6 overall and 2-2 in ACC play.

FSU Finishes Clemson’s Season At ACC Tourney

Florida State utilized a 17-5 run midway through the second half on its way to a 73-69 victory over Clemson on Thursday in the opening round of the ACC Tournament at Greensboro Coliseum. The Tigers, down by as much as 14 in the second half, battled to within two late only to see the Seminoles seal it from the free throw line. Clemson closed the season with a 13-18 record. Florida State improved to 18-14 overall and will play No. 3 seed North Carolina on Friday evening. All three Seminole wins were by five or less against the Tigers.

Gamecocks Open SEC Play At Missouri

South Carolina (15-2) begins SEC play this weekend traveling to Columbia, Mo. for a three-game series vs. Missouri (5-7). First pitch for the opener is Friday at 7 p.m. ET. Saturday’s game is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET with Sunday’s contest at 2 p.m. ET. All three games can be heard on the Gamecock Radio Network from IMG College including flagship station, 107.5 FM, “The Game.”

USC Opens New Softball Field Friday

The University of South Carolina will open its new Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field this weekend, hosting No. 4/6 Alabama. The Gamecocks and the defending national champion Crimson Tide will meet in games scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, 12 noon on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Gamecocks Dominate Davidson 12-4

LB Dantzler homered twice for the first time in his career and drove in a career-high six runs as fifth ranked South Carolina defeated Davidson 12-4 on Wednesday evening at Carolina Stadium. The Gamecocks improve to 15-2 with Davidson dropping to 6-8 for the season.

Clemson Baseball Edges CSU 3-1

Freshman lefthanders Matthew Crownover and Zack Erwin along with sophomore righty Kyle Schnell, all first-year Tigers, combined to allow just five hits, one unearned run, and no walks with four strikeouts to lead Clemson to a 3-1 win over Charleston Southern at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. The Tigers, who improved to 17-0 all-time against Charleston Southern, upped their record to 10-5 on the season. The Buccaneers fell to 8-10 in 2013.
