Baseball Hosts Ball State Tuesday and Wednesday

South Carolina (8-2) is back in action on Tuesday, March 5 beginning a two-game series with Ball State. First pitch for the opener is 7 p.m. with Wednesday’s game scheduled for 4 p.m. Ball State heads to Columbia after a pair of games vs. Morehead State in Spartanburg, S.C. on Monday night. This is the first meeting between the two schools on the baseball diamond. Both games can be heard on the Gamecock Radio Network from IMG College with live video broadcast available on the All Access Channel at GamecocksOnline.com.

Gamecock Baseball: Week In Review

South Carolina continued the 2013 season with a win over Furman in a midweek contest and a series victory vs. Clemson with two wins in three games over the weekend. South Carolina made a bookend of the weekend with a 6-0 shutout on Friday at Doug Kingsmore Stadium as well as an 8-0 shutout of the Tigers on Sunday at Carolina Stadium. The Gamecocks have now won 20 of the last 28 games played between the two schools from the 2007 season to the present. The Gamecocks are now 8-2 on the year. Carolina hosts Ball State in a pair of midweek games beginning Tuesday with a three-game series this weekend vs. Rider as well.

Belcher’s Shutout Gets Gamecocks Series

Senior lefthander Nolan Belcher pitched a three-hit shutout in #7 South Carolina’s 8-0 victory over Clemson in front of 8,242 fans at Carolina Stadium on Sunday. The Gamecocks, who won the series 2-1, improved to 8-2 on the season. The Tigers dropped to 6-4 in 2013.

USC Women Set SEC Standard On Senior Day

No. 14/13 South Carolina over-powered Florida late in the second half en route to a 67-56 victory Sunday afternoon at Colonial Life Arena. The Gamecocks opened the second half on an 8-2 run and held the Gators off at every charge, and a 14-5 surge over five minutes late in the second half sealed the school-record 11th SEC win of the season. The three team captains led the way, especially down the stretch. Ashley Bruner’s 16 points led the offense, while Ieasia Walker scored 14 points and tied her career high with eight assists. Aleighsa Welch posted her ninth double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
