The 2013 football season opener between the South Carolina Gamecocks and North Carolina Tar Heels will be played on Thursday, August 29, it was announced today. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN from Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia. Game time will be announced at a later date.
Senior first baseman LB Dantzler earned SEC Player of the Week honors as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. In the Albany series, Dantzler went 9-for-13 (.692) at the plate with two doubles, two homers, six runs scored and 10 RBI. He had 17 total bases for the weekend with a .733 on-base percentage as well as a 1.308 slugging percentage.
Clemson’s 2013 football schedule includes three games against teams that finished the 2012 season in the top 10 in the nation. The schedule was released by the Atlantic Coast Conference on Monday.

The Gamecocks’ Baseball team went 3-0 this weekend and are now 5-1 on the season. The team remains number 7 by Baseball America after beating the University of Albany Saturday 8-3, 14-1 in the first game Sunday, and 6-4 to close out the series in the second game Sunday.
Fresh off a no-hitter in game one of a doubleheader, fifth ranked South Carolina stormed ahead in the nightcap with six runs in the first three innings on the way to a 6-4 victory over Albany to sweep a doubleheader and the series vs. the Great Danes. Carolina is now 5-1 on the year while the loss drops Albany to 0-5 for the season.
Defense led No. 15/15 South Carolina to a 58-43 victory over Mississippi State at Colonial Life Arena Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Aleighsa Welch led the Gamecocks (22-5, 10-4) with a career-high 20 points along with 11 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the season. Defensively, the Gamecocks forced 22 Mississippi State turnovers, which they turned into 26 points. The win was South Carolina’s 10th in SEC play this season, tying the school record for the second-straight season.
