USC Shuts Out Georgia In Opener, 3-0

Senior left-handed pitcher Michael Roth hurled seven-plus scoreless innings and combined with relievers Tyler Webb and Matt Price for a five-hit shutout and third ranked South Carolina scored single runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings on the way to a 3-0 victory over Georgia on Friday night at Foley Field. The Gamecocks are now 38-12 and 17-8 in the SEC while the loss drops Georgia to 28-22 and 12-13 in league play.

Lexington Baseball Eliminates White Knoll

A.J. Hart pitched a complete-game five-hitter and Austin Bello and Dalton Addy drove in two runs each that helped top-ranked Lexington to a 5-1 over 10th-ranked White Knoll in an elimination game in the Lower State AAAA baseball playoffs on Thursday.

Former Tiger Bowers Tears Achilles

Tampa Bay defensive end Da’Quan Bowers has torn his right Achilles tendon during an offseason workout and will undergo surgery. The second-year pro out of Clemson was a second-round pick in the 2011 draft. He started six of his 16 games as a rookie, finishing with 25 tackles.

Gamecocks Shut Out Furman, 7-0

Junior center fielder Evan Marzilli belted a three-run homer and tied a career-high with four RBI and behind five scoreless innings from starting pitcher Joel Seddon, third ranked South Carolina defeated Furman 7-0 Wednesday evening in non-conference action at Carolina Stadium. The Gamecocks improve to 37-12 on the year while Furman drops to 22-26 for the season.
