USC Beats Furman 8-5, Tanner Gets 1,100th Win

Joey Pankake went 5-for-6 with a pair of RBI and Evan Marzilli added four hits including a three-run homer as sixth ranked South Carolina snapped a three-game losing streak with an 8-5 win over Furman on Tuesday night at Fluor Field in Greenville, S.C. The win marked head coach Ray Tanner’s 1,100th career win in his 25th year as a head coach in Division I baseball.

Clemson Wins 4th Straight, 6-2 Over Elon

Steve Wilkerson went 4-for-4 at the plate and three Tiger pitchers combined to allow only two runs and one walk with 11 strikeouts in Clemson’s 6-2 win over Elon at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Tuesday night. The Tigers, who took a 1-0 lead in the two-game series, improved to 10-8 on the season. The Phoenix dropped to 12-9.

Jimmie Johnson’s Team Wins NASCAR Appeal

NASCAR’s chief appellate officer has overturned the six-race suspension of five-time championship winning crew chief Chad Knaus. Chief appellate officer John Middlebrook ruled Tuesday that Knaus and car chief Ron Malec, who also was suspended six races, instead will be on probation through May 9.

Gamecocks Advance to Sweet-16

South Carolina scrapped its way to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 with a 72-61 win at No. 13/15 Purdue Monday night. It is the Gamecocks’ third Sweet 16 appearance with the last coming in 2002.

Spurrier Talks to Ellington About Returning to Football

South Carolina head football coach Steve Spurrier met with Bruce Ellington on Monday on the possibility of Ellington returning to the Gamecock football team. Ellington, who will be a sophomore in football in 2012, announced last week he would focus on just basketball, but recently has had second thoughts.

Carter Suspended From USC Baseball Team

Relief pitcher Ethan Carter has been suspended from the USC baseball team. Carter was cited for public drunkiness in the Five Points section of Columbia on March 9th. Gamecocks also found out the team dropped five spots to no. 8 in the Baseball America top 25.

Gamecocks Swept, Clemson Sweeps

Number 16 Kentucky is now 21-0 thanks to a 6-3 victory and three-game series sweep over the Gamecocks this weekend. Clemson meanwhile breaks even at 3-3 in ACC play thanks to a three game sweep of its own over Boston College.

Ellington on 2012 Spring Roster

Bruce Ellington apparently had second thoughts on quitting football and playing only basketball. ABC Columbia has learned with WCIV in Charleston that Ellington is considering to come back and play for the Gamecock football team in 2012.

Clemson Wins Second Straight

Dominic Leone allowed only one hit in 5.2 innings pitched and Clemson pounded out 11 hits en route to a 6-3 victory over Boston College in front of 4,598 fans at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Saturday night. The Tigers, who took a 2-0 series lead, improved to 8-8 overall and 2-3 in the ACC. The Eagles, who lost their eighth game in a row, fell to 6-10 overall and 0-5 in ACC play.
