South Carolina school districts are at risk of losing approximately $1.5 million in federal funding if they do not comply with a new curriculum mandate from the Trump administration.
The South Carolina Dept. of Education voted this month on the first round of challenged books since a new law took effect in August.
Regulation 43-170 took effect August 1, which states “any instructional material in South Carolina public schools has to be age and developmentally appropriate and aligned with the state’s instructional program.”
A new policy in South Carolina is being implemented by the Board of Education to regulate reading materials in classrooms.
