Voter ID Bill Signed Into Law
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — With the stroke of a pen, a new Voter ID bill is now law. Wednesday, South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley signed the bill which requires voters to show a state or military photo identification card before voting. Supporters of the bill say it is a necessary step to ensure there is no voter fraud. Opponents say the bill will keep some voters from heading to the polls, mainly low income people and African-Americans, but under the bill, those voters would be able to get a state issued ID card for free say proponents.
