Man charged with giving seizure drug to teen

CLOVER, S.C. (AP) — York County deputies say a man has been charged with giving a 14-year-old Clover middle school student a prescription drug after a few students at the school appeared sleepy and unsteady on their feet. Investigators said in a press release Thursday that 38-year-old Christopher Marc Veurink was charged with distribution of klonopin and other charges. Klonopin is a sedative used to treat seizures and panic attacks. Deputies began investigating Wednesday after officials at Oakridge Middle School reported three students who were tired and out of it. Investigators determined Veurink gave the pills to a 14-year-old student, who sold them to his classmates. The student is being charged as a juvenile. It wasn’t immediately clear if Veurink had an attorney. (Copyright 2011 by The Associated Press. All rights reserved.)
