NC trooper finds 81 kg of cocaine in back seat
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Authorities say a North Carolina state trooper found $2.4 million worth of cocaine in the back seat of a truck during a traffic stop.
The Charlotte Observer reports Saturday that two men face drug possession and distribution charges.
U.S. Attorney Anne Tompkins says a state trooper stopped a pickup on U.S. 74 in Monroe for following a vehicle too closely. Court documents say the trooper saw three large duffel bags in the backseat.
A police dog indicated drugs were in the truck, and the trooper opened the bags to find 81 kilograms of cocaine.
The two men are 33-year-old Rueben Orozco-Garcia and 46-year-old Juan Gonzalez-Behar. A judge on Friday ordered them to remain in jail without bond pending a hearing this week.
