N. Charleston police say 1 dead in shooting, wreck

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Police say a driver was shot and then wrecked his car as he drove onto Interstate 26 in North Charleston.

Police spokesman Spencer Pryor says the victim was shot while entering the highway snarling traffic and causing the interstate to close for several hours Monday following the early morning incident. The busy interstate has now reopened.

Authorities identified the victim as 40-year-old Maurice Youngblood of Charleston.

They say he was with a woman at a restaurant just off the interstate before the shooting. No arrests have been made.

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office is conducting an autopsy.
