Family fixing Rock Hill home make explosive find

ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) — The bomb squad was called out in Rock Hill after a family renovating a 1940s home found a grenade inside a kitchen cabinet.

Frank Lochel told The Herald of Rock Hill he was moving the cabinet Monday when he heard something rattle. His son and brother reached inside and found a small package with “SIMULATOR, HAND GRENADE” written on it

Lochel says they quickly and carefully put the package down and called 911.

Bomb squad members say the grenade was used for training in the 1970s and while it does explode, it isn’t as dangerous as a regular grenade.
