Lexington offering free civilian safety course

LEXINGTON, S.C. (AP) — Lexington County deputies are hoping practice makes perfect in training citizens on what to do if they are attacked.

Sheriff James Metts says his deputies are conducting a free civilian safety awareness program Thursday night at sheriff’s department headquarters in Lexington.

Metts says those in attendance are learning now to defend themselves and escape if they are attacked. They’ll also be instructed about the importance of staying aware at home, work and inside their cars.

Participants receive a chemical pepper aerosol spray kit and two inert devices for practice.
