SC baby sitter gets 25 years for baby’s death

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — A 45-year-old baby sitter has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after admitting she killed a 5-month-old boy in her care.

Prosecutors said Evelyn Petty pleaded guilty Wednesday to homicide by child abuse in the September 2009 death of Jordan Roy.

Investigators say Petty originally told them she tripped over a coffee table and dropped the baby on his head, then shook him to try and revive him.

But prosecutors say autopsy results show the baby’s only injuries came from being shaken.

Petty will have to serve at least 20 years before she is eligible for parole.
