SC woman guilty of manslaughter in husband’s death

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — A James Island woman has been found guilty of voluntary manslaughter in the March 2010 stabbing death of her estranged husband.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reports that a jury on Friday rejected a murder charge against Nancy Fontaine, finding her guilty of manslaughter instead.

Authorities say Fontaine admitted she stabbed 58-year-old Robert W. Fontaine at his Edisto Island home.

Nancy Fontaine told deputies she and her husband had been at a bar and argued when they returned to his home. She said her husband shoved her and kicked her and she stabbed him.

Fontaine’s attorney said his client was defending herself.

Fontaine faces up to 30 years in prison. Attorneys plan to have her psychiatrically evaluated before she’s sentenced.
