Charitable giving reaches record level at MUSC
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Despite a sluggish economy, charitable giving reached a record $83 million at the Medical University of South Carolina during the fiscal year that ended last month.
The Charleston institution announced Tuesday that giving was up 8 percent from the previous year. A report last month from the Giving USA Foundation found that most nonprofits had increases of about half that.
MUSC reports there was an increase both in the number of donors and the number of gifts. A majority of the year’s contributions, about $46 million, came from foundations and nonprofit organizations.
