Feds charge SC man in Ga. kidnapping
COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) — U.S. Marshals have arrested a South Carolina man who was wanted in Columbus since April on kidnapping charges.
Authorities say Melvin Keith Chaney was arrested Thursday in Phenix City, Ala. He was charged with felony interstate interference with custody.
Marshals spokesman John Devenney said he is charged with taking his 10-year-old daughter from her mother in Columbus and driving her to Columbia, S.C.
He was arrested after investigators learned that Chaney had gone to his girlfriend’s house in Phenix City.
Devenney said the child was safely recovered and soon returned to her mother.
