Spartanburg County starts annual traffic crackdown

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — Law enforcement has begun its annual crackdown on Spartanburg County roads.

Sheriff Chuck Wright calls it Operation Rolling Thunder, where state troopers join deputies and local police to crack down on traffic violations and drug dealers, concentrating their efforts on Interstates 26 and 85.

Last year, the operation ended with 73 arrests. Officers also seized $86,000 in cash, 13 pounds of cocaine, 7 pounds of marijuana and thousands of pills as well as other illegal items like guns counterfeit checks and fake designer purses.

Wright says he will announce the results of this year’s operation on Friday.
