Fire damages print shop on USS Yorktown in SC

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (AP) — Officials are trying to figure out what caused a fire on the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown at the naval museum at Charleston Harbor.

Mount Pleasant firefighters were called to the Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday and found a fire in the print shop below the flight deck.

Battalion Chief Steve Drozd says it took about 10 minutes to put out the flames.

One firefighter was treated at a hospital for heat exhaustion and was later released.

Patriots Point executive director Mac Burdette says the fire caused about $8,000 in damage to the materials and printing equipment used to make posters, fliers and brochures.

The print shop is not included on the tour route on the ship..
