SC car dealer charged with selling cars with liens
AIKEN, S.C. (AP) — A 46-year-old Aiken car dealer has been charged with fraud for selling vehicles with liens against them and not telling customers.
The Aiken Standard reported Wednesday (http://bit.ly/rgaUOU ) that Theodore Jenkins is charged with three counts of obtaining goods by fraud.
Detective Keith Glover says Jenkins bought vehicles from auctions, sold the titles to a title loan business and got a cash loan. Glover says Jenkins then sold the vehicles for cash and told buyers they would get a title in the mail. The detective says customers never got a title and their cars were repossessed by title loan companies that held the liens.
Police say buyers should get a title, bill of sale and mileage records when they buy a car with cash.
