SC man gets life in prison for killing former wife
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — A Duncan man has been sentenced to life in prison with parole for killing his ex-wife last year.
Forty-six-year-old Arthur Deval Mims was sentenced Tuesday in Spartanburg.
Mims had pleaded guilty in May to killing 36-year-old Dawn Mims at their home in April 2010.
Arthur Mims was also sentenced to 20 years in prison for wounding his stepdaughter. Amber Smith survived the shooting and spoke to Circuit Judge Roger Couch before Mims was sentenced.
Smith says the night her mother was killed has been a nightmare that she lives over and over.
Prosecutors say Mims set the home on fire after the shootings.
He was arrested in Davidson County, N.C., after a chase of about 100 miles. He drank bleach during the three-hour standoff with police.
