Darlington police chief found dead at home
DARLINGTON, S.C. (AP) — Darlington Police Chief Jay Cox has been found dead at his home.
City manager Howard Garland says it appeared the 52-year-old Cox had died of natural causes when he was found Wednesday morning.
Coroner J. Todd Hardee said an autopsy was scheduled Thursday. Hardee says there is no indication of foul play.
Cox has been chief since 1995 and had been with the department more than 20 years.
Capt. Danny Watson has been named interim chief.
Mayor Tony Watkins says Cox deserves credit for a low crime rate for the city.
