Spartanburg County deputy resigns amid SLED probe
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — A Spartanburg County deputy has resigned as state agents investigate allegations that he beat a suspect in his custody.
Sheriff Chuck Wright said Clayton Bradley resigned Tuesday. He had been suspended without pay as the State Law Enforcement Division investigated an incident after a public disorderly conduct arrest last month.
Bruce Simmons says the deputy hit him at least four times and choked him after he called him a name as he was being taken to jail. Simmons’ mug shot shows him with a swollen eye.
Bradley had been with the sheriff’s office for nine years.
