Coastal Carolina receives NCAA certification

CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — Coastal Carolina was among 28 schools given NCAA certification that it operates its athletic program in compliance with the governing body’s principles.

The NCAA announced the certified schools Thursday.

Coastal Carolina and the other certified schools had to complete a self-study led by the school’s president or chancellor. The schools also had to review their governance and commitment to rules compliance, academic integrity, gender and diversity issues and the well-being of student athletes.

NCAA members are required to take part in the self-study once every 10 years.

The NCAA has been investigating the school’s basketball program for possible illegal benefits to players. The school has said it has cooperated with the inquiry.
