Descendants to honor NC Revolutionary War hero

CAMDEN, N.C. (AP) — Descendants of Revolutionary War Gen. Isaac Gregory will gather in Camden County at a newly refurbished marker about his heroics.

The descendants will honor the general Saturday at the 3-foot-tall marker that the Daughters of the American Revolution placed in front of Gregory’s home about 100 years ago.

The Virginian-Pilot in Norfolk, Va., (http://bit.ly/n96Lmm ) reported that the Sons of the American Revolution recently refurbished the marker and placed it in a nearby area since the only sign of Gregory’s home now is a patch of trees in a cornfield.

Gregory led the North Carolina militia at the Battle of Camden, S.C., where the Americans were defeated. But Gregory’s bravery was noteworthy. He was bayoneted twice, then released by British doctors who thought he was dying.
