Mullins council asks police to probe mayor’s bills

MULLINS, S.C. (AP) — Mullins City Council wants the State Law Enforcement Division to investigate overdue water bills for Mayor Pam Lee.

The Morning News of Florence reported http://bit.ly/okHQmP the council on Monday voted to shut off Lee’s water and sewer service until the bill is paid.

Council also told the city administrator to ask SLED to look into the mayor’s bill, as well as allegations that she has failed to pay the 2 percent hospitality tax on a restaurant she runs.

City officials say Lee owes more than $16,000 in taxes, fees and interest.

Lee says she will pay what she owes, though she disputes the amount.

But Lee says she’s concerned what she considers questionable spending by the city in other areas.
