SC AG reviewing complaint on interim DPS director

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The attorney general’s office is reviewing allegations against the interim director of South Carolina’s public safety agency.

WIS-TV in Columbia reported Wednesday (http://bit.ly/oOqsmC ) that a Beaufort woman named Ali Rowell filed a complaint earlier this month against Col. Kenny Lancaster with the agency’s internal affairs office. Rowell alleges in a sworn statement that she and Lancaster began an affair in 1992 while he was assigned to Beaufort County. She claims that 16 years later the married man fired her husband out of jealousy.

Public safety spokesman Sid Gaulden called the claims unproven assertions and declined comment.

State Law Enforcement Division Chief Mark Keel has sent the complaint to the attorney general. A spokesman for that office confirmed Wednesday it was reviewing a complaint against Lancaster but did not specify the subject.
