Greenville County man arrested in July killing

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — A Greenville County man has been arrested and charged with killing a Marietta man reported missing last month.

Thirty-one-year-old William J. Phillips of Marietta was charged with murder and a weapons violation when he was arrested Friday.

Forty-one-year-old Charles Roberts was reported missing July 8 after his vehicle was found abandoned. His skeletal remains were found earlier this month.

Twenty-four-year-old Jerry Leonard Allen Jr. was arrested earlier and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Sheriff’s deputies have not released a motive in the killing.

It wasn’t clear if Phillips has a lawyer.
