Ex-boyfriend charged in death of USC professor
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Columbia police say a man has been charged with murder in the stabbing death of his ex-girlfriend, who was an education professor at the University of South Carolina.
Investigators said 37-year-old Hank Hawes was arrested Sunday at a hospital, several hours after officers found the body of 36-year-old Jennifer Wilson.
Officers first went to Wilson’s home early Sunday morning after a neighbor reported a loud argument. Wilson’s doors were locked and officers didn’t notice anything unusual, so they left. Another concerned neighbor called around 11 a.m. Sunday, and officers then found Wilson’s body.
Police say Hawes and Wilson once dated but were no longer together.
Hawes is being held in the Richland County jail. It wasn’t clear if he had an attorney.
