Concern with N. Charleston police at NAACP forum
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Some residents of North Charleston say the police department uses racial profiling, harasses people and conducts unnecessary car chases.
The complaints came at a forum Tuesday sponsored by the NAACP. More than 60 people attended the forum with many complaining about police tactics.
Police Chief Jon Zumalt defended his department’s actions.
Zumalt says increased surveillance and traffic stops are needed to stop the violence in the city often related to drugs and guns. He says the traffic stops will continue.
