Greenville getting downtown ice rink over holidays

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — The city of Greenville will have an outdoor ice skating rink downtown for the coming holiday season.

Mayor Knox White says the rink will open the day after Thanksgiving and remain available to the public through the first week in January. White says the city has been trying to put a rink in the downtown area for years to attract families over the holidays.

Parks and Recreation Director Dana Souza says the rink will be on a spot previously occupied by a parking garage. Souza says the ice in the rink will be kept cool by an oversized chiller.

Admission will be $10 per person and skate rentals will be available.
