SC country club tries to save old oak
DARLINGTON, S.C. (AP) — The multi-trunk oak tree that serves as the logo tree for the Darlington Country Club is getting a little help from man after standing tall for almost 100 years.
The Morning News of Florence reported (http://bit.ly/nCjXek ) crews began working Friday on the oak, placing cables on the huge branches of the tree, which is beside the ninth green on the Darlington Country Club golf course. The cables will take some of the stress off the limbs and trucks, helping prevent breakage.
The work is being performed by certified arborist William Carter, owner of Greenscape Tree Service of Florence. He says the cables have to be placed in specific areas of the tree to assure its preservation.
