5-foot rattlesnake caught on Hilton Head Island

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina generally welcomes visitors, but one resort on Hilton Head Island had to get rid of an unwanted guest – a 5-foot, 5-inch diamondback rattlesnake.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports (http://bit.ly/r2xa96 ) the snake was seen by a guest on a sidewalk at the Barony Beach Club in Port Royal Plantation on Tuesday.

The resort called Joe Maffo of Critter Management who came out and snagged the snake and took it away.

Maffo says he’s caught about 10 rattlesnakes on the island over the years, but the one he caught Tuesday was the largest.
