Roth Cites Many Reasons For Return

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ Michael Roth earned some time in the spotlight at the College World Series, and so did his father. Now, the two are back in familiar surroundings. Roth spoke Tuesday for the first time since turning down the Cleveland Indians for his senior year at South Carolina. Roth went 14-3 with a 1.06 ERA and helped pitch the Gamecocks to the 2011 national title. He held Florida to two runs in 7 2-3 innings of work in a 5-2 victory that clinched the championship. Roth’s father, David, gained national attention when he quit his job as a car salesman after his employers wouldn’t give him time off to watch his son pitch in Omaha. Michael Roth says his dad got work at a dealership soon after returning to South Carolina.
