2 Winthrop instructors record SC baseball memories
ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina’s public educational broadcasting network is closing out the baseball season with a documentary by Winthrop University instructors about the oldest stadium in the state.
The Herald of Rock Hill reported Sunday that (http://bit.ly/out0Xx ) ETV’s “Southern Lens” program will air the 30-minute documentary about Spartanburg’s Duncan Park Stadium in late October.
Duncan Park opened in 1926 and hosted the Philadelphia Phillies’ minor-league team from 1963 to 1994. Winthrop sports management professor Al Bolognese says in its heyday in the 1940s and 1960s, as many as 21,000 spectators packed the 6,000-seat facility.
The stadium is now used by two collegiate summer league teams. A group called Friends of Duncan Park is trying to keep it from being torn down.
Bolognese produced the documentary with mass communication instructor Mark Nortz.
