Warning of fallen cyclist turns deadly on SC road

BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a bicyclist lying on a rural Richland County road was struck and killed after the driver of an SUV swerved to miss a bystander who ran into her path to warn her of the fallen person.

Troopers said the driver on the road about two miles south of Blythewood had just rounded a curve around 11 p.m. Thursday when she struck the cyclist.

Investigators have not determined why 54-year-old Stanley Kelly was lying in the road.

Troopers are still investigating the incident. No charges have been filed.
