Horry leader dismisses 8 allegations against cops

CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — Horry County’s administrator says there is no basis for eight of nine allegations against the county police department.

John Weaver reviewed allegations in an anonymous letter.

Weaver says he could not investigate the allegation that items have been stolen from the evidence room. He says he couldn’t see the records and any tampering with the material in the room could affect future prosecutions.

County Councilman Harold Worley says the State Law Enforcement Division should investigate.

But Councilman Bob Grabowski says it would be a waste of time and money to investigate the evidence issue, since the other allegations were unfounded. Grabowski says the letter was a vindictive attempt to harm other people.

The council is expected to decide later whether to have an outside agency investigate the evidence room.
