Kershaw Deputies Investigate Shooting

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) — According to a release from the Kershaw County Sheriff’s office. At approximately 2:30 am Sunday morning Kershaw County Sheriff‘s deputies responded to the scene of a shooting in the Lugoff community. One individual had been shot three times and died as a result of those injuries. Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews says that deputies were dispatched to a residence located at 63 Trinity School Rd. in Lugoff, SC following reports of a shooting. Arriving deputies discovered a body outside of the residence on the ground. Kershaw County Coroner Johnny Fellers has identified the victim as 36-year-old Daniel Lee Wood Jr. of Lugoff. Initial reports indicate that several individuals were at the residence for a social get-together and were outside drinking around a fire. An argument ensued between the victim and another individual and shots were fired. Mr. Wood was shot three times and died almost instantly. Investigators are currently interviewing witnesses and trying to locate other witnesses. A weapon has been located, but at this time it is unknown if it is the murder weapon. According to Sheriff Matthews, one person of interest is in custody on separate charges. But has not been formally charged with the murder at this time.
