Sixth grader dies after car hits him near school
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — An 11-year-old boy has died after he was hit by a car as he crossed a street near his Columbia area middle school.
Richland School District 2 sent an email Wednesday morning saying the boy died from his injuries. Troopers say the sixth grader was struck as he crossed a four-lane road near Dent Middle School after school let out Tuesday.
The school district did not release the boy’s name.
Troopers say they are investigating and no charges have been filed.
Officials say there was no crossing guard at the intersection a few blocks from the school where the boy was hit.
