Worker hit and killed by vehicle on side of I-85

COWPENS, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a worker getting ready to cut down weeds along Interstate 85 in Spartanburg County has been struck and killed by an out of control truck and trailer.

Investigators said the truck appeared to lose control on the wet highway around 10 a.m. Wednesday, hitting the landscaping truck parked on the shoulder of I-85 near mile marker 83 and pinning the victim between the two vehicles.

The name of the dead man has not been released.

Two other workers were injured and their conditions weren’t immediately known.

Troopers say the truck driver, 50-year-old Hilario Munoz, was charged with driving too fast for conditions and not having a South Carolina driver’s license. A phone listing for Munoz could not be found.
